Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals has been Phi Mu’s national philanthropic partner since 1986. “To lend to those less fortunate a helping hand.” The first line of Phi Mu’s Creed has been a call to serve others since it was written more than 100 years ago. From our earliest days of supporting a health mobile that delivered health care to women and children in rural areas to supporting toy carts for children in hospitals to our current partnership with Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, Phi Mu has long been committed to lending a helping hand to those in need.
We are proud to be the only sorority to partner with Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals and have an alliance with the National Women’s History Museum. We were also the first sorority to establish a National Philanthropy Day more than 20 years ago. Lending a helping hand is at the heart of who we are as Phi Mus.
Since its founding in 2016, Eta Rho has donated almost $35,000 to UC Davis Children's Hospital, which is the only CMN Hospital in the NorCal area. UC Davis Children's Hospital is nearby, making our philanthropy a significant part of Eta Rho's identity! At Sac State, Phi Mu hosts two annual philanthropy events: Mu Madness and the Miracle Maker Pageant.Mu Madness, typically held in the fall, is a basketball tournament where campus organizations compete to raise funds for UC Davis Children's Hospital throughout the week. Our week-long competition includes bake sales, dunk tanks, toy drives, and Pie a Phi MU. At the end of the week, points are tallied, and the winners of the basketball tournament are announced. In the spring semester, we host our Miracle Maker Pageant. Similar to Mu Madness, we hold events throughout the week leading up to the pageant, allowing each participating organization to earn points for their team. The main event, our pageant, consists of 4 rounds: Phi Mu x CMN trivia, a Hospital Gown Decorating contest, Fitness 4 Kids, and a talent show!
